In view of the finite nature of our fossil resources, the increasing need for resources and climate change, the use of renewable raw materials is already of great importance today. Plants, straw, wood or microalgae can replace crude oil as a raw material for the chemical industry in the long term. Industrial biotechnology and its combination with chemical processing methods are considered key technologies on the way to sustainable chemistry. From the point of view of economic efficiency, scalable new processes are required, which must be closely networked with existing production structures.
